We are:

Mirelle and Herman Gerritsen, and we welcome you to our site, but of course also to our holiday accommodation. At the end of 2010 we decided to think carefully about a new challenge. Fueled by our travels and the realisation that there is more to life than running around like crazy things, we thought that we should take the risk and start start a holiday park in Eastern Algarve, Portugal.

Herman, has experience in catering and has worked for many years in maintenance, and Mirelle comes from an entrepreneurial family, her experience as sales manager always comes in handy. We both find it very important to make people happy, and also to enjoy each other, the climate, nature, the population. In short, working in an inspiring way.

Montinho da Luz is on a plot of almost 1.5 hectares. Construction started originally in 2004 and the holiday homes were occupied from 2005 onwards. We took over in January 2011 and in 2014 we built Casa da Jardim. In total there are now 5 holiday houses on the property. Montinho da Luz is beautifully built and well thought-out, we have implemented various environmentally-friendly modifications, for example the garden is irrigated with the help of groundwater; the computer keeps track of how long and how much water is needed for watering. The electric hobs have been replaced by gas. The pool is now salt water, and the trees in the bird garden get filtered water from the fossa (our sewer system).

Our biggest pride is the hot water supply. On the roof of our technical room there are 10 solar panels that heat the (municipal) water in the 950 litre boiler. In addition to hot water, for showering etc, we can also heat the casa's with it; the houses have radiators, which disseminates a delicious, even heat. The advantage is that the electric underfloor heating does not have to be used intensively anymore. Incidentally, we have installed a wood stove and an industrial pellet stove to support the solar panels, during the cooler winter days with fewer hours of sunshine. The pellets are particularly environmentally friendly, almost no residual combustion. In the wood stove the fire burns on our own prunings.
